Scratch Camp Tubbercurry - DAY TWO

Costumes Tab & Costumes Panel

By changing costumes we can make a sprite appear as if it is moving.  Have a look at this Scratch Card - Moving Animation.  Try it in your Scratch project.

The Sound Editor

Scratch already has some sounds included that you can use in your project.  You can also import your own sounds.
It is really important that you do not use sounds/music that belongs to somebody else without their permission.  You should only use 'royalty-free' sound clips.
There are different sound file formats.  The best type to use with Scratch is 'mp3'.

We'll add some sound to our projects now and then we can find another sound to import.

Costume Tricks

There are some neat tricks you can use with the costume tab.... like rolling (not moving) a ball.  http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/24911816/#editor

Let's Practice a little more

What did we learn today?

By changing costumes we can make a sprite appear as if it is moving.

Sprites & Code Blocks

What can we do to a sprite?  Let's try them out, we can:
  • Make a sprite larger
  • Shrink a sprite
  • Move a sprite
  • Delete a sprite
  • Hide a sprite
  • Copy/duplicate a sprite
  • Get a new sprite

Using the Code blocks there is lots we can do.....
We'll start by creating a new project.

Check out the Libraries

There are many different sprites available to use in your project in the library.  There's even a library for the stage/backdrop.

Lets Go Practice

What can we get a Sprite to do - we can all take a little time to experiment now.

What did we do today?

Everyone can take a turn, if they want, to tell us a little about what they did today.

Pixels

This will be good to know over the next few days as we do more with Scratch.  You don't need to learn it off, we'll soon discover it when we use Scratch.
